Ingredients Needed to make this maple pecan baked brie

Brie cheese: you’ll need a 250-350 g wheel of double cream brie. I recommend using double cream brie, which is super rich and creamy.

Brown sugar: add that beautiful caramel flavour when mixed with the maple syrup

Maple syrup: the maple flavour pairs wonderfully with the pecans

Vanilla extract: just a touch of vanilla extract brings the flavours together

Cinnamon: a bit of ground cinnamon rounds out the maple – brown sugar flavour

Pecans: pecan halves or whole pecan pieces will work for this baked brie; if you prefer, use chopped pecans

Fresh herbs: fresh rosemary or fresh thyme works as a lovely garnish

How to make this maple pecan brie

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking dish or shallow ovenproof dish with a piece of parchment paper. Place the wheel of brie into the parchment lined baking dish. Score the top of the brie lightly in a diagonal pattern with a sharp knife.

Step 2: Make the pecan topping: In a small bowl whisk together the brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract and cinnamon until combined. Then, stir in the pecans. Spoon the pecan topping on top of the brie and drizzle any remaining liquid in the bowl over the pecans / brie.

Step 3: Bake the brie in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes or until cheese is starting to bubble and almost ooze out. Spoon any of the maple sauce in the baking dish over the baked brie / pecans and then garnish with fresh rosemary or fresh thyme. Serve with you favorite crackers or toasted slices of baguette (crostini).

Expert tips

  • Serve the cheese as soon as it’s out of the oven as it will be the most melted; the brie will start to harden after about 15-20 minutes. Don’t fret, the baked brie is still delicious as it cools.
  • Make crostini to serve with this baked brie: Preheat your oven to 400°F and slice your baguette into 1-inch thick slices. Brush the baguette slices with olive oil on one hand and place on a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast for 10 minutes, making sure to flip the slices halfway through.  Alternatively you could use a sourdough baguette to make the crostini.
  • You can make this maple pecan baked brie the star of your holiday cheese board! Bake the brie and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then gently use the parchment paper edges to lift the brie out of the baking dish and place in the center of your cheese board. Fill in the rest of the cheese board and enjoy!

Common questions

Can I make this baked brie ahead of time?
I don’t recommend making this baked brie ahead of time. Brie is best served hot out of the oven.

Do I need to remove the rind from the brie wheel?
No, the rind on the brie is edible! What you will need to do is score the top of the brie which will make it much easier to eat.

Storage

I recommend serving the baked brie on the day it’s made. Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

To reheat, place in an oven at 325°Fahrenheit on a piece of parchment paper or in the microwave. You can also serve it cold by slicing up the baked brie and adding it to a sandwich!

  1. Are you supposed to bake the brie on its own and then put the topping on top and serve it or put the topping on top and bake it all as one?

    1. Scoop the pecan topping on top of the brie before baking 🙂 See Step 2 & 3 in the recipe for the specifics, I hope that helps!
