What’s In Season – Recipes to Make in September

Have you felt that coolness in the air in the morning? We’re heading into one of my favourite seasons for cooking.

There are so many delicious ingredients to cook with as we transition seasons.

So let’s chat recipes to make in September!

Right now we’re harvesting the last vegetables from our garden, specifically carrots and san marzano tomatoes. Our tomatoes took a while but with all the sun we’ve had these last few weeks they ripened just perfectly! I plan on making some homemade tomato sauce with our tomatoes. And with the carrots we plan to enjoy them for afternoon snacks.

We’ve also got a TON of herbs still growing so I plan on doing a couple things:

  • Drying out the rosemary to use during the year; I simply put the rosemary stalks in a brown bag with a few holes in it and let it air dry for a couple of days.
  • Storing some fresh herbs in the fridge for immediate use – you can find my tips in this blog post.
  • Making some butter/oil-herb ice cubes for future use as a starter to sauteed vegetable dishes or even soups.

And before we wrap up our garden for good this year, I always write notes on what grew well where in the garden, what didn’t go so well and ideas for next year. I find it super helpful when the Springtime rolls around!
